Timber is an essential construction material in many rural areas of Nepal, including those affected by the recent earthquakes and will be instrumental in achieving seismic resistant buildings during the imminent reconstruction. This talk will focus on suitable species, typical properties, selection and grading, the measures required to ensure resistance against fungus and termites and good practice seismic detailing.

Andrew Lawrence has worked for Ove Arup & Partners for over 20 years. He is the leading Timber specialist at Arup and a member of the Eurocode Timber Design Code Committee. He is currently working with timber industry bodies in the USA, UK, China, SE Asia and Australia, to help make timber a mainstream construction material, alongside steel and concrete, because of its potential to create sustainable, pre-fabricated and earthquake resistant designs.

This seminar marks the launch of a monthly discussion group organised by ASF-Nepal and A&D aimed at addressing different BBBS aspects in an open and collaborative manner.

The evening will consist of a 45 minute seminar followed by a Q&A session. Refreshments will be provided. It will take place in the auditorium of the Alliance Française in Kathmandu, Banshi Ghat Marga, Teku road, Tripureshwor. Parking available, click here  for directions.
